And now for a project a little more technical...

DIY unmanned aircraft vehicles… which I want for my trip to Hawaii.

Making this lei next (ribbon carnation lei)

Hey, I have an adjustable dress form that’s never been out of the box that might be suitable for you, as I ordered the wrong version for myself.

Wow, that would be super. I’d been meaning to buy one for a while, but had been stressed about whether to get an adjustable one or do that ridiculous custom-padding method mentioned in the couture sewing book. On second thought, why make life harder on myself…

I finally finished a Victorian outfit two weeks ago. It’s only the second full-body outfit I’ve completed. This time I took the perfectionist route, furiously sewing and resewing seams until I was perfectly satisfied. It was really aggravating, but I learned way more this time than the first time as a result.
I checked out a book on couture sewing techniques from the library, and it is totally worth the money I would have otherwise spent on it. I picked up some new hand stitch techniques and learned that baste-stitching pieces together would quickly give me something to try on for size, without committing to anything via smaller stitches.
In fact, baste-stitching was pretty critical in this project. I could not sew or hem curves for the life of me. But baste stitching, oddly enough, really helped smooth out my curves, especially when I couldn’t cut notches to release any puckers. (Got that trick from Burdastyle.)
I really need to get myself a dress form.
Fun fun. ^^

I am truly (oddly) craving a cake from 85C, a legit Taiwanese bakery from back home. They have these strange mousse cakes that are light as air and mysteriously yummy, and these are not something available to me in the DC area.
And so I go and check out my favorite Korean cook’s blog and stumble upon another beautiful cake, made of rice flour. I really need to buy myself a steamer, if I don’t stumble upon another opportunity to nosh on an Asian cake.

Trying to sew a sleeve into a Victorian outfit for a competition on Saturday. It has proved to be the bane of life. I’m going to try this lady’s tutorial next.

This is cutely awesome!
